Demand for skilled workers in renewable energy sector is growing

Net zero nation is a huge and important project, which will bring countless of positive things with itself. It is supposed to create around 440,000 new jobs, and UK government plans to invest £90 billion into it.

That means a lot of opportunities for tradespeople with the right set of skills. Obviously, trained renewable energy engineers and technicians can as well expect higher wages, as they will be highly demanded.

Which types of renewable energy means are expected to grow the most?

Solar panels installation

Solar photovoltaic energy is world’s largest source of renewable energy. In the UK solar panels currently create 13,2 GW of capacity, yet to follow net zero economy plan, it should grow to at least 40 GW by the year 2030. That means as much as 13,000 new solar energy jobs in upcoming years.

Wind turbines mechanicians

The UK creates a perfect environment for creating energy from wind turbines. By mid-August 2022, there was 11,198 functioning wind turbines with a total installed capacity of over 25.5 GW. Wind power creates almost 25% of total supplied electricity, which makes it largest renewable energy source in the UK. In the upcoming years, UK government plans major expansion of the offshore capacity, which means new jobs on offshore wind farms.

Heat pumps and electric boilers

As gas boilers will no longer be allowed by 2025, electric boilers and heat pumps start to replace them. Therefore, already now there is a huge demand for multi-skilled plumbers, who can easily reach earnings around £150,000 a year.
